The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation is recognized as the highest standard of excellence for competent and ethical personal financial planning. Less than 20% of practicing financial advisors in the industry can claim this distinction, and here at APCM Wealth Management for Individuals (AWMI), we are excited that our team of CFP® professionals has grown to five in 2017.
Earlier this month, I was authorized by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) to use the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP® certification marks after completing the last of the required “Four E’s” – Education, Exam, Ethics, Experience. As I shared in my post “What Does It Take to Become a CFP® Professional?”, this designation has been three years in the making.
I was authorized to use the CFP® marks earlier than I had expected due to the rich experience I’ve gained as a member of our Private Wealth team. Here at AWMI, we take every client through our Comprehensive 360° Financial Planning process, beginning with our Discovery Meeting. From analyzing our clients’ financial status to developing and assisting with implementation and ongoing monitoring of their financial plan, our process is focused on knowing our clients and understanding your goals. Consequently, my time working at AWMI not only fulfilled the Board’s experience requirement, but accelerated my ability to use the CFP® marks.
The Four E’s of the CFP® certification does not end with our designation. In order to maintain the CFP® certification, 30 hours of continuing education must be completed each two-year cycle, with at least 2 hours dedicated specifically to CFP Board’s Standards of Professional Conduct (Ethics). We take ethical conduct very seriously here at AWMI. As a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), we are legally obligated to provide not only suitable investment advice to our clients, but also, as fiduciaries, we must act in your best interest. This combined with the CFP Board’s most recent public awareness campaign, “Certified Equals Qualified,” gives you confidence that working with the CFP® professionals at AWMI means you receive the highest standard of financial planning service out there.
I am proud to be a member of such an elite group of professionals who hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethical conduct, and I am even more grateful to be part of our dedicated team of experts here at AWMI. I look forward to continuing to build relationships with our clients and helping you to reach your goals through our comprehensive financial planning process.
