The Path to Becoming a Financial Planner - Alaska Permanent Capital Management

The Path to Becoming a Financial Planner

While finishing my Bachelors in Finance at UAA, I worked for a prestigious estate planning law firm here in Anchorage. Working alongside these attorneys and learning from them, I developed a passion for assisting clients with their estate planning needs. As I was studying finance at the same time, I discovered I wanted to take a holistic approach to planning, helping clients with their entire financial picture. This started me on my journey to a career in financial planning.

Last year, I completed my Masters of Science in Financial Planning from Golden Gate University. I had the privilege of learning from many CFP® professionals who are active in their own practices and in the financial planning community. Since coming to APCM in April of 2014, I have had the invaluable experience of working with Cathie and Laura and truly discovering how to incorporate all of the knowledge I have been accumulating over the past several years.

Recently, I was authorized by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) to use the Certified Financial Planner™ and CFP® certification marks in accordance with CFP Board certification and renewal requirements. This designation requires extensive training in financial planning, estate planning, insurance, investments, taxes, employee benefits and retirement planning, as well as in CFP Board’s Standards of Professional Conduct. In order to uphold this certification, CFP® professionals must adhere to the CFP Board’s requirements of ongoing continuing education. Only 17% of all financial advisors in the industry can claim this distinction.

I am proud to be joining this group of professionals who are held to high standards of ethical conduct and even happier to be a part of our team here at AWMI. I look forward to building relationships with our clients and assisting them with reaching their financial goals.
