We are delighted to announce APCM Wealth Management for Individuals Director, Cathie Straub, joins an elite group of women who have been recognized with a YWCA Women of Achievement Award. For 25 years the YWCA has been honoring women in Alaska who demonstrate qualities of leadership and excellence in their personal and professional lives, and have greatly contributed to their communities.
Cathie began her career as an audit and consulting manager at E&Y before changing careers to pursue her CFP® certification. Over the next 30 years, while making Alaska home for herself and her family, Cathie continued to excel in finance by becoming a director and owner in each firm where she worked. By following her strengths, taking the advice of mentors, and reaching back to bring up those close behind her, she found her career path. As she moved from accounting to financial advising, earning the required licenses and accreditations, Cathie was still able to combine her technical expertise with the most important element of providing financial services – focus on the person. Like Cathie says, people often akin visiting their financial advisor to visiting their dentist, with dread. It is with the right amount of humor, passion, and financial skills that Cathie has become a leading advisor for Alaskans, with specific expertise in women’s finances. Cathie’s experience and commitment to helping others led her to further her financial advisor education, including her most recent accreditation, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst. While some life transitions such as divorce or death of a loved one are overwhelming enough, she is able to draw upon her educational knowledge to assist the process and ease some of the burden. Cathie believes it is a privilege to empower women to make smart financial decisions and it is the most rewarding part of her career.
Cathie’s commitment to the community is evidenced by her involvement with established and fledgling non-profit organizations over the years. She has provided her professional knowledge to furthering the mission of organizations like: Girls Rock Camp Alaska, Anchorage International Rotary Club, Great Land Trust, Anchorage ATHENA Society and the YWCA. All the while, Cathie expertly balances her family life with her work life. Although, she does not see a hard line between the two, as she will tell you many things she does for the community she views as an investment for the future of her children.
We are proud to have Cathie Straub as a member of the APCM family and join the YWCA in honoring her with this special award. The YWCA Women of Achievement ceremony and purse auction is on Thursday, November 12th at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
