APCM Welcomes Michael Ross

My name is Michael Ross, and I am the newest addition to the APCM institutional team and joined this March. Born in Orlando, Florida, I moved to Anchorage as a young kid and have lived here ever since. Like most, I enjoy everything that Alaska has to offer, including fishing, golfing, and diving for gold during the beautiful summer months that we have.

I received my Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a minor in Computer Science from the University of Alaska Anchorage. During my senior year, I had the opportunity to be part of the student-managed portfolio, where we pitched investment ideas for the UAA $1M Seawolf Investment Fund. This helped prepare me for a future career in institutional portfolio management. It taught me how to conduct research, identify potential risks within specific sectors, and publicly explain my decision-making process. My lifetime interest in the financial markets and technology is the reason I chose to pursue my degree, as they both go hand in hand.

Recently, I joined APCM to assist with the transition to our new investment accounting software, Clearwater Analytics. Clearwater offers several advantages, including a more robust client reporting system and an overall enhanced client experience. The integration also provides advanced tools for portfolio analysis, risk assessment, and performance evaluation, which will help streamline our operations. Once completed, my goal is to shift into a performance-oriented role, and as part of that, I am currently pursuing the CIPM designation from the CFA Institute.

For the past four years, I worked at the Hotel Captain Cook. Being the largest hotel in the state, mixed with the millions of tourists that Anchorage experiences every summer, this gave me valuable experience in revenue management and the hospitality industry in general. My position taught me how to process data and make well-informed decisions based on changing market conditions. It also taught me the skill of recognizing that each corporate client is unique and how to tailor to their specific needs.
I am excited to be a part of the APCM team and look forward to the future!
